This Week!

Math: We are in Topic 2 which focuses on addition and subtraction to 10. Doubles and Near-Doubles facts! The Homework/Extra Practice sheet will be sent home daily. This is not graded and is optional. I highly recommend doing this with your child at home if you feel they need some extra math help. There will be no intervention teachers working with 1st grade this year.


Reading: We are learning about Fiction story elements: character, setting, problem and solution. In addition, we have been talking about Non-Fiction books and their parts. We have started going to the library and we will go Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please return any books from last year.


Writing: We are learning about how to write about stories we have read and how to write letters P, Q, R, S and T.



Phonics: r-family blends, words like crab, trip, prop, trim, brim and drip.



Sight Words: on, he, for, was, are



Social Studies: How are we good helpers at school?

Reminders:
 
*Ms. Anderson will be gone on Friday. Please encourage your student to be on their best behavior when there is a substitute.

Math: We are testing topic 1 on Monday.   We will begin Topic 2 on Tuesday. Topic 2 focuses on addition and subtraction to 10. The Homework/Extra Practice sheet will be sent home daily. This is not graded and is optional. I highly recommend doing this with your child at home if you feel they need some extra math help. There will be no intervention teachers working with 1st grade this year.

Reading: We are learning about fiction and non-fiction books. I will check guided reading levels this week.


Writing: We are learning about writers workshop and letters E, F, G for handwriting.


Phonics: Reviewing letter names and sounds. 


Sight Words: I am checking individual sight words with each student. 


Social Studies: We are learning about Respect in ROAR (assembly Thursday) and how to get along at school. 

Reminders:
*Snack cart has started. If you would still like to sign up contact the office.

*School picnic is Thursday around 5:30. A note was sent home.
 
*We will check out library books on Wednesday.
 
*Please have a pair of extra clothes at school for accidents.
